Update on the game selling expedition I started earlier in the week! Games are already starting to fly out of my house. I've been listing GBA and DS stuff on eBay to great success. I try to be real thorough with my photos, everything someone would be looking for to avoid bootlegs shown clearly, checking sites to see what games are going for and trying to price them accordingly or slightly lower than the going rate, and it works! People think they're getting a good deal on a game in very nice shape and I clear up some more space in my closet. In some cases, I'm getting offers on them literally five minutes after they go up.
The rewards have thusfar been sweet, and paired with a pretty Monopoly Community Chest card-esque bizarro situation involving an accidental recurring charge from a website I barely remember using that I'll be getting back in full, yeah, I've got some money flowing in. Very nice. I still haven't been in touch further with my reseller friend about getting rid of the big lots just because interacting with people is something I habitually avoid doing, but I do have photos with him and I will get those to him by the end of the day.
I think more than the money (which is great, always is), I'm just happy to see things that have been sitting around Somnolescent HQ in some cases since my childhood, long before the name Somnolescent was even coined, finally go back out into the big world. I'd rather someone else be able to enjoy my NES GBA SP or use it as a base for a cool IPS screen mod project or even just be something in someone else's collection—I don't really care, it just means it's not in my drawers being neglected. That feels good. I'm a fairly minimalist guy at heart. I want only the one thing that does the thing the way I like it. I have better ways of playing these games now than my old frontlit GBA with a slightly iffy charging port from when I was 8. Someone else can enjoy that now.
Plus, this will all either have to go or come with me to Wales in 5-7 years anyway. Better I get it gone now than have to worry about that when I'm also juggling an intercontinental move.
Anyway, we're off to go see E.T. in a bit. I haven't seen it in almost twenty years, and my mom's never seen it, which is surprising for someone who loves her 80s. In fact, she didn't even remember me owning the DVD of it (which I no longer have). Should be a good time to kill an afternoon with.
