Update on the game selling expedition I started earlier in the week! Games are already starting to fly out of my house. I've been listing GBA and DS stuff on eBay to great success. I try to be real thorough with my photos, everything someone would be looking for to avoid bootlegs shown clearly, checking sites to see what games are going for and trying to price them accordingly or slightly lower than the going rate, and it works! People think they're getting a good deal on a game in very nice Read more
The mixtape I put together for 2025 is now on YouTube! This is the first time any of my mixes have been publicly available for listening. The 2024 mix I did, I burned to some CD-Rs and mailed out to the Somnolians, most of whom don't have CD players. I have an alternate 2025 mix I had made before the trip seriously improved my spirits and brought back my optimism for a lot of things, and I think only dcb got a copy of it. I did drop a zip of this mix in Somnol, but it was over the holidays and Read more
(Brief aside before we begin: post on the group blog from the 13th! It's an overly-technical, highly obscure ramble about a program for getting better looking 8-bit paletted images, and yet another thing I found interesting from the PageMill CD-ROM. Just figured I'd mention that before we get started. I gotta get better at letting folks everywhere know what I've been up to.) So for well over ten years now, I've been putting off selling my games. The flipside to my dash over the past two years Read more
Was jonesing to get going on some more marfGH work, so I finished up a new custom last night. This is for one of Brad Sucks' more recent songs, "In Trouble", and you can watch the chart in action here. It came out real purdy. Love the light show on it, and I think the camera work is pretty sick too. All this to say—Volume 2 is in progress. Expect it by Christmas like the last one. What's not necessarily apparent from watching it is how much of what's in the video is not stock at all. Even Read more
I've been feeling better lately. I realized about the time I bought the tickets for this year's Wales trip (May into July!) that a lot of my immigration plans just started feeling out of reach, and a lot began to feel either pointless or off-limits. That's not the only reason things really fucking sucked for a bit—my cat died and my grandma is currently on her way out—but yeah. Easier to just play RetroAchievements sets all day. I've got more of a plan now for when I get back for the next Read more
Things have been getting better, folks. Posting that last post on its own helped, but shortly thereafter, I got this really lovely, long email from an anon who lurks somnol.net and the journal encouraging me to keep going and to keep up the stuff I love doing, because people are out there looking. I don't know if they read my reply (I don't even know if my reply made it there, my email client was being a little sketchy), but to say it again: thank you. They also had some requests to see some Read more
Unwell February 11, 2026
I've had something of a crisis of faith recently. For the entire time I've been mariteaux, I've been a full-throated supporter of the idea that whatever your niche interest is, you should share it loud and proud. I still get emailed about the Passion essay, most recently a couple days ago. People to this day tell me that what I said back then, what upset a bunch of people who aren't even around Neocities anymore, is still resonating with them, and that those words are what they couldn't say, or Read more
My first Protoweb restoration in almost two years is live! This one's for the early Opera Software site. I go over all the gooey details in the linked Protoblog entry, but all I can say is that this has been a long time coming, I'm excited to be back helping out a good project, and I'm glad to finally have those fucking Opera installers out of my Downloads folder. My plan is to complete a restoration each month. I know I can work way quicker than that, but I think this is a good goal to aim for Read more
I was too sozzled during the marfGH New Year's Eve stream to remember to do this, but I righted the wrong at the start of this week's Okami stream and showed off my beaten games memory card. Since 2024, I've been using an old 32MB PS2 memory card as a big dumping ground for PS1 and PS2 games I went through and completed. It's about half-filled now, and the part of me that's addicted to finishing things loves to look at the saves pile up as time goes on. Looking at my gaming habits this year, a Read more
Happy new year, journal people! I'm still coming down off the marfGH grind, so it's taken me a few days to deal with the backlog of places to update and get back into my art and music habits. Let's start with this Cammy! Caby got me a really nice XP-Pen screen tablet for Christmas, in every way an upgrade over the 2012 Wacom Bamboo I was using, so I drew a Cammy. He's good and chunky, I'm happy with how this boy came out. I told Somnol that I seem to be slipping into Garfield's sleepy smug gay Read more
