Still chipping away at the things I said I was working on in the previous post, but I've been meaning to be better about updating the journal, so here's another fun post. The not-really-fun context: my grandma has fairly late stage lung cancer and has moved in with us to hopefully have a better quality of life going out. This has naturally made things a little screwy around the house, but it's also provided a more fun opportunity to snoop and larp as a digital archaeologist. Rather than simply Read more
Dive In October 28, 2025
October's been a tricky month for me. It's been hard adjusting back to life at home, and more often than not, I've just felt like people don't really need to see more from lil old me, really. I started just playing PS2 games all day instead, and that was cool, but I knew I had to get back on the horse sooner or later. (It calls to me. It goes "neigh neigh" in the night.) I've also been having really irritating, bruised soreness in my writing hand thumb from a tendon issue (exacerbated by Read more
Hello chat! I have arrived in the UK. Or, more accurately, I arrived a week ago and have been too busy doing that thing called "living life" and "having fun" to update the journal. I'm sure you'll forgive me. That said! With there being so much having happened since I last updated, there will be a couple posts on the journal, some trip-related, some not, for you to enjoy. If you're wondering, it's been lovely so far. It's incredible going from all the awkwardness of a text chat to stepping out Read more
Library sale started up yesterday! You might remember last year's post about it where I picked up a bunch of music and Redwall audiobooks, and we went again today. I love library sales and flea markets and the less-traveled end of music hunting, because you never know what you'll find and you'll usually pay a lot less. True, I may stumble into five copies of Cher's Believe, but then you'll find a copy of Editors' The Back Room for $1 and it becomes the best album you've heard all year! Not to Read more
Earlier today, my mom told me of a local flea market with metric shittons of vinyl and CDs going for cheap, and well, it reminded me that I hadn't even opened my previous cheap CDs, let alone catalogued them. (40 hour menial job work weeks are nightmarish, turns out.) Let's do that quick. Here's some CDs, DVDs, records, and games I bought this spring that I've yet to show off on here. Quick notes and stories on some of these: Most of the CDs came from a store called FYE (like FYI, but For Your Read more
I have finished reading Desertbound! That's Savannah's still in-progress Pinède novel. She hasn't been too loud about it publicly, but believe me, it's a whopper—and contradicting that, also just a nice, tidy little adventure novel. I have a pretty unique perspective on it, partially because it stars (massively overhauled versions of) some of the characters she was kicking around back when I first met her, and we were just two awkward and sad preyed on teenagers that grouped under this Read more
I have fallen way, way behind on the journaling thing—I'm starting to miss it. You know I had to serve on a jury last month, and I just didn't write about it? (I'm not going to, it was a pretty downer outcome to the case, not fun at all.) I've bought so many cool toys this past month, for me and for others, I still wanna recount my adventures in Quake II, I've got my feelings about the end of 2024 to write about! As happened last year, I'll be doing some daily, ideally smaller updates with Read more
I gotta fuckin' write something, this Art Fight stuff is a grind. Conveniently for the journal, to give us two whole posts this month, I have something to ramble about! Let's talk album reviews, because I recently hit a really special milestone with them: 100 entire albums in the database! To review or not to review When I was putting together the brand new mari.somnol on Macintosh Garden, bringing back my album reviews (and game reviews from cammy_v1—we'll do more of those next year, Read more
I haven't been posting many journal entries lately! That's partially because I've been a little bit wayward, certainly bouncing between projects waiting for something to stick me, and maybe double-thinking basically everything I do creatively. (Those jobs were a bust, by the way. One never got back to me, and the other rejected me not through a rejection email, but through an update on a helpdesk ticket for a broken form on their website. I then got an automated email later that same day asking Read more
Before we begin, NEW CABY SITE. NOT A DRILL. PLEASE GO VISIT IT. OLD FLASH GAME VIBES ARE EVERYWHERE. IT'S ADORABLE AND IT'S FUN. Paired with that, she wrote a journal last night while I was out getting snacks from Lidl with Trys, and she's been chewing on a lot of the same thoughts that I have about leaving. It's a phenomenally bittersweet thing, more so than last time. It's become so natural, this trip has been so relaxed, so domestic, and yet I am so much more aware of myself and what I'm Read more
