Happy new year to everyone reading my journal! I have a really good feeling about 2025. Like, really good. There was a lot to be proud of last year, but just as often, I learned I was just as sick if not a little more as the people around me, and, at my worst, I feel like I neglected my friends and my girlfriend. I forgot that, if you want good times, you have to make them. No one can do that for you or to you. It wasn't on purpose or anything, but that doesn't mean it's right. Thankfully, Read more
Hey, I'm busy preparing art for the stream tomorrow and listening to Semisonic (life comes at you fast), but promise you'll be there? We'll be showing off marfGH features and brand new charts publicly for the first time ever, and I'll be doing it on my real PS2 with a guitar I've been practicing with for a couple weeks now. It'll be a real good time. Be there. Come hang out. Watch me barely be able to play Expert. Read more
The Canada Post strike really disrupted me more than it probably should have. There was almost a year of building excitement for those Last Summer CDs, and all the time I spent drawing things for them, only to see the ones for Savannah and Connor freeze three days after I send them right along the border. Almost a month later and they still haven't moved. I had journal posts about putting it all together ready to go that I just wasn't able to post. I was gonna put the last dozen copies or so up Read more
Summing up impel impel is funny. It doesn't officially count for a mission pack, and you can tell because it uses all custom textures that mimic the textures of the original game. This was common for unofficial paid expansions back in the day—you weren't redistributing id's stuff just because your levels worked with Quake, but the textures you use in a level get embedded into the level file, and if you're using id's textures, that is their property. As a result, Aftershock for Quake and the Read more
Whoops! I meant to have this posted days ago! Sorry to leave you all hanging on the next installment of "Cammy reviews Quake mission packs", but such is life. I'm busy and I worked a nine hour shift today. Summing up rogue I was pleasantly surprised—I remember hearing from somewhere that Dissolution of Eternity was the one with all the annoying traps, but it was a pretty smooth playthrough throughout. hipnotic is definitely the objectively better pack, but rogue is fun too. One of the most Read more
Ah, man, I think I'm getting better. When the journal goes quiet, you know I have zero desire to write shit for it. I took a week off of some of my vices, and I'm starting to save money again after using them to finish off my student loans. It's not perfect still, still a couple things haunting me even as I write this, but I've got lots creatively that I'm feeling comfier with and work especially is very calm right now. By mid-February, I will have $10,000 banked up, and I'll be around $23k in Read more
Little minor update—I've gone through all my old streams and given them new thumbnails. Check it out: I've also gone through and standardized the descriptions, so they have proper lists of games, intro songs if present, and a link back to mari.somnol (gotta always be linking places, right?). It's a weird feeling, going back through these old streams and seeing all the names of people who popped in and I don't talk to anymore. Definitely some good times had on those streams, though; I'd like to Read more
I've been playing too much Unreal Tournament Caby finally shipped over the games I bought in Wales! It was a lot of fun sitting and installing them to the eMachines Box from disc, punching in the CD keys, the whole ritual. It's not convenient, but neither is the eMachines Box. It's fun! I'm very happy that the eMachines Box actually offers a much better gaming experience than I initially pegged it for—just so long as those games are five years older than the box itself. As Caby said once Read more
Apologies for still being sporadic on the journal front! Not really been up to a ton a ton? I did finally finish the gigantic group drawing for five years of Somnolescent back on the 20th—which I should probably post more places because it's the first group pic I have ever done and completed and it came out really cute. There's a message from me on there too with some ideas for where we're going in 2024. Big thing is that I'll be streaming Vib-Ribbon again tonight at 7PM! Folks have been Read more
Hope everyone's September is going swell so far. I'm really keeping my head down and working a lot, and it's paying off. Customers dropping $2200 my store in one go tonight. My manager was impressed, and after I learned he's just hard to read and doesn't actually hate me, I've been a ton more comfortable in my job—and I mean, that's what you need in retail, to feel good and be able to chirp at customers. It helps that I'm a lot more excited about what I'm selling now than I was about Read more
