Welcome to cammy.somnol v3.0, everyone. (If you only read the journal, check around the rest of the site, that's where the action's happening.)
I've had this brewing for way too fucking long now. I was quite happy with the idea and general execution of cammy_v2 (back in 2022!), but I thought the graphics were old and the site was wearing the remnants of a few attempted ideas that never panned out or only made my life more inconvenient (trying to support Netscape 4.0 and its shitass layout engine and horrific CSS support, for example). I also intentionally set it up not using AutoSite, as I guess I wanted a more hands-on, full-control-of-every-page site setup (aka making my life more inconvenient). That's not counting the handful of completed pages, either from cammy_v1 that I've never brought over, or new pages that just needed a header graphic or something. Good work that just never went up.
I've had it sitting near-complete on my home testing server for quite some time—we're talking so long that the journal overhaul was meant to go up with it—but it's all finally ready to deploy. That doesn't mean it's bug-free. I currently have to track down and work around an HTMLy bug where it sets a cookie without a PATH and thus fucks up some custom JavaScript I wrote for the 2023 trip diary, but that's okay. Maybe by the time you read this, that will be sorted out too.
As is customary, archives has been fed with cammy_v2, the previous version of the site. Maybe the old versions of some of the long-unfinished pages will get added to it as a time capsule. I don't mind if stuff on archives is wonky, obviously, since it's archives. It's meant to be a funny little time machine.
Here's a hopefully exhaustive changelog, more for my amusement than yours:
- New front page with an imagemap and tons of new graphics!
- Existing graphics that I kept have been simplified to be shorter vertically for old monitor friendliness and re-rendered to be free of that dithering effect for your eyes friendliness
- Converted every page to AutoSite and Markdown, so pages are written the exact same as journal entries
- Removed all attempted Netscape 4.0 compatibility JSSS junk because ain't nobody got time for that, and pages should now properly validate as HTML 4.0 Strict
- Added a favicon finally (a big C to match the big M on mari.somnol!)
- Added page: "Hacking the Sony Demo Loaders" in the Underground section
- Added page: "The Games That Shaped Me" in the Aboveground section (originally written 2023, yes, three years ago, edited and finally finished this year)
- "My High Scores for Amplitude (2003)" and "My High Scores for FreQuency" have been brought over from cammy_v1 at long last and updated with my PBs gotten in 2025
- The "ACNES Compatibility List" in the Underground section has been converted to PHP and now uses a CSV file exported from my Works Database file for ease of updating
- Updated HTMLy to the current 3.1.1 (must keep up on that more regularly)
- Any random lurking files, plus one old public page and a few private ones, have been removed (these are still on cammy_v2 on archives should I really need them ever)
- Removed Herobrine
Now's the time to keep adding to it. Expect a Wales 2025 trip diary soon, more cammy_v1 goodness, and some newer, sillier page ideas. I've been backing up the relevant saves of all those games I've been selling, and I think getting 'em online for the both of us to explore would be quite fun.
