Day Ten: Colton and somnol.net Headshots

Another lazy day around the house drawing...

For a bit in Somnol—not so much now—after our big blowout Friday night calls, we let the server go quiet for a day so we could be offline a bit more and not tied to a Discord all day. (That stopped being a thing because the calls got a lot more irregular, mostly.) As a result, with no logs to refer to, I actually have no idea what happened that day! Obviously, I wasn't messaging Caby, because I was there with her, so short of Dwayne Richard's time machine, I have no way of remembering what funny stuff happened.

What I do know is we were drawing a bunch. Since we added three new people to Somnolescent in the month or so leading up to the trip (Jake, Connor, and Caby's brother Cramble), I was poking Caby into drawing the headshots and fullbodies for their Somnolescent bios so they could be an official part of the group at long last. Then I went in and wrote shitposty in-jokey bios for everyone. (Linked are the aforementioned bios.)

Needless to say, folks loved what we came up with.

Jake, Cramble, and Connor's reactions to their Somnol bios

As for what I was drawing! Around this time, I got on a kick drawing my teenage raccoon boy Colton for some reason. He was actually the first character I tried drawing, back in 2021 before I really started drawing, so it felt nice and familiar. Over the course of drawing him, I thought it'd be fun, since my raccoons come out very trapezoidal anyway, to start out with that shape for his head instead of a circle. Worked out quite nicely!

Various attempts at drawing Colton

Older ones are in the top left, newer ones in the bottom right, hence the gradient from wonky to less wonky. The boy with the visible mask wound up not looking much like Colton at all, but we all went "awww" at him anyway. He was actually the first one I tried the alternate head shape on. Maybe he could become his own character somewhere, he's got sneaky stealy vibes.

(The one with the robe and lantern, I wound up coloring and finishing; you can go see that one in my art gallery if you're so inclined.)
